Looking for a teacher

Regarding battle maneuvers, you seem like the sort that would rather use battle as a plot device rather than an end unto itself, so I'll cover that first. Your best option is probably to message your would-be opponent and work out how you want the fight to go down, then write it out together. As for typing out the maneuvers themselves, what I like to do is get out of my chair, go through the motions and pay attention to what muscles I'm using. (It helps to have a boffer sword in your hands, too.) Take note of what's awkward, what's natural, and how your moves flow together. As for the sorts of maneuvers your character would use, don't forget that your character has her own ideas. Where you might do a low sweeping motion with your stick to take out the foe's legs, they would instead cause a brief tremor underfoot with their earth powers and follow it up with a powerful thrust to the chest to knock them on their behind.

Heck, I even have a guide buried in the Library regarding how to combine character development with combat maneuvers. By and large, though, character development is something that just happens. A cheery and good-natured sort might become world-weary and suspicious after being raped, to take one extreme example.

Regarding playing males vs. females, there's no real difference aside from social norms. Play the sort of character you want.

As for lengthy posts, I generally only hit 300 words on a good day, so the best advice I have is to make an initial post in a word processor, then add in extra details using previous activity. I tend to make gratuitous use of the edit button to achieve this, but that's just my style. This gets easier when your partners make long posts, too.

The war has ended for now and peace has been restored. But those who sacrificed themselves for the victory will never return. Exhausted, X gazes at the destruction he helped cause and wonders why he chose to fight. Was there another way?

Standing on the cliff, the answers seem to escape him. He only knows that he'll fight the Mavericks again before he finds his answer.

How long will he keep on fighting? How long will his pain last? Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure...
